ACCEL’s team is dedicated to providing specialized training to assist teachers in achieving excellence in instruction. The outcome of our work measurably improves performance, motivation, and quality of instruction for teachers.
Our training team is comprised of individuals with varying expertise:
Dr. Mindy Malik is the Vice President of Training and Program Development for ACCEL, a private, special education program for students with developmental disabilities in Phoenix. She holds a Doctoral degree in Developmental Psychology and is a former teacher. Dr. Malik was the Child Development Coordinator for Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, and has consulted widely in public, parochial and special schools, and Head Start programs. She was the cofounder and program director for Mercy Family Center, a behavioral health clinic in New Orleans. Areas of expertise include psychological and developmental assessment and intervention, behavior management, classroom set-up and organization, teacher training, and program development.

Dr. Bryan Davey, the Director of Behavioral Services for ACCEL, is a Doctorate level Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a certified special education teacher who holds a Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis and a Doctoral degree in Special Education. His primary areas of expertise include training school personnel in the application of behavioral principles and procedures, functional behavioral assessments/analysis, positive effective treatment protocols, and effective teaching behaviors. Dr. Davey has consulted for school districts and families in Washington, Utah, Georgia, Maryland, and Arizona. Dr. Davey has presented his research and conducted workshops at numerous regional and national conferences.

Kathy Sullivan-Orton is the Vice President of Support Services and Special Projects at ACCEL. She has been in special education for over 25 years in numerous capacities: special education teacher for students ages 5 - 21, Principal, Clinical Director, Coordinator, Director of Education Services as well as serving 5 years as a member and chair of SD #391 Governing Board. She was named Idaho’s Middle School Educator of the Year in 2002. She is an approved national site reviewer for NCASES (The National Commission for the Accreditation of Special Education Services).

Cadre of Teachers- The training team draws from a cadre of highly qualified ACCEL teachers with years of experience educating students with Autism and other developmental disabilities. All teachers hold a Masters degree, have achieved Master Level Teacher status at ACCEL, and many have been involved in the Model Classroom Project. Teachers in this cadre have received numerous honors including the National Teacher of the Year awarded by NAPSEC (National Association for Private Special Education Centers), the Samuel A. Kirk Award, AZ Council for Exceptional Children Teacher of the Year, and the Larry Salsburey Teacher of the Year Award.
ACCEL Consulting Services provides training to groups of any size. Group size ranges from training individuals and parents, to large groups including school district personnel. We individualize our trainings to meet the specific needs of the group, regardless of audience size.
